The 7 major Chakras are:

• The Root Chakra – Located in the base of the spine.
• The Sacral Chakra – Located below the belly button area and above the genital area.
• The Solar Plexus Chakra – Located in the Solar Plexus or stomach area.
• The Heart Chakra – Located in the chest area.
• The Throat Chakra – Located in the throat.
• The Brow Chakra or Third Eye – Located in the middle of the forehead.
• The Crown Chakra – Located at the top of your head.

So, how does this happen?

It is not yet fully understood how Reiki helps balance and heal the Chakras. What is known, is that Reiki energy guides itself to exactly where it is needed in the body for healing. It is the practitioner’s intention to be the channel for this spiritual healing energy so it can flow through themselves and out to others.

To help keep the Chakras balanced between Reiki healing sessions, there are other steps that can be taken. These range from different forms of exercise, meditation, or even eating certain items based on their color. Wearing particular items of clothes in a specific color can also help maintain the balance of a certain Chakra. Certain gem stones, used by some Reiki practitioners, can be used as an aide to continue balance and harmony between sessions, as well.

You may experience physical problems or issues with your kidneys, lower spine or legs, when the Root Chakra is blocked. Emotionally, you may become more aggressive or violent than usual, or act confrontational and territorial in nature when this Chakra is imbalanced.

The Root Chakra helps us to administer our life force. By balancing it, you may experience increased stability, structure and security in your life.

Between Reiki Treatments

You can help maintain the balance of the Root Chakra by practicing movement of any kind that activates the legs and feet, such as dancing, walking, or yoga. To further promote this balance, do these activities (if possible) barefoot. Wearing red items of clothing such as red socks will help keeping the balance when you are unable to go barefoot. Doing so, will help “ground” yourself to this physical world.

Other ways you may maintain the balance of the Root Chakra is through burning incense that smells of musk, cedar, sandalwood or cloves. These light earthy smells remind us of being grounded to this world. Garnets and Rubies are also recommended for the maintenance of this Chakra, being that they are variations of the color red. For example, a light ankle bracelet made with these gemstones will help you maintain balance of the Root Chakra.

If you feel like your Root Chakra may have an imbalance, eating something red, such as an apple or a beet will help keep your energy flowing and balanced.

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Root Chakra is balanced.

• Do you have a lot of physical pain in your lower back, legs, knees, feet?
• Do you have any habits or addictions that run your life?
• Do you have difficulty materializing any good ideas you may have?
• Are you extremely stressed?
• Do you worry about your security more than you should?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Root Chakra needs to be balanced.

When the Sacral Chakra is blocked, you may experience problems with your reproductive system, spleen or back. An imbalance here can also affect how you feel emotionally. Jealousy towards others or a lack of satisfaction with what life has dealt you is a common indicator that your Sacral Chakra needs balancing.

By balancing the Sacral Chakra you can maintain healthy, friendly relationships with others by genuinely caring about them. It helps you not take everything that happens so seriously so that you can see the humor in life’s little jokes.

Between Reiki Treatments

The best way to help maintain the balance of the Sacral Chakra is through dancing. The energy you build up by dancing and moving your hips stimulates and revives the Sacral Chakra. Using scents like Gardenia, Rose or a flowered musk or the gemstone called moonstone may also help promote balance within this Chakra.

Additionally, the color orange helps maintain the balance of the Sacral Chakra. Wearing orange clothing, such as an orange belt, shows your intention that you want this Chakra to stay balanced. Drinking orange juice or eating oranges everyday helps to keep the energy flowing around this Chakra.

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Sacral Chakra is balanced.

• Do you experience a lot of problems with your reproductive system?
• Do you have frequent urinary track problems?
• Do you seem to be overly obsessive or possessive towards others?
• Are you easily agitated?
• Do you become jealous easily?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Sacral Chakra needs to be balanced.

When the Solar Plexus Chakra is imbalanced, you may experience low self esteem, depression, and/or anxiety. A blockage here can also cause you to experience digestive problems or issues with your pancreas.

Between Reiki Treatments

Sporting activity helps to keep the energy center of this Chakra stimulated. Martial Arts, hiking, and biking are all great ways to keep the energy flowing correctly through the Solar Plexus Chakra. As a result, people who are heavily into sporting activity usually don’t experience the possible emotional issues that may occur when this Chakra is blocked.

Wearing a t-shirt with a yellow sun on it will help you on your travels. Eating corn and bananas are a good way to motivate your flowing energy. Using gemstones such as Amber, Tigers Eye and Citrine or lighting incense that smells of marigold, cinnamon, or orange will stimulate the Solar Plexus Chakra. Enjoying a nice sunny day is also a fantastic way to help keep this Chakra in balance.

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Solar Plexus Chakra is balanced.

• Do you experience digestive disorders or pain?
• Do you have problems controlling diabetes or are pre-diabetic?
• Do you feel the possible onset of arthritis?
• Are you easily overcome by fear?
• Do you quickly judge or hate others?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Solar Plexus Chakra needs to be balanced.

When fully balanced, the Heart Chakra thrives on the two-way nature of relationships so it can function with peace. When the Heart Chakra is imbalanced, you may experience issues with your Thymus Gland, along with problems with your heart and lungs. You may also experience emotional issues related to your happiness, an unwillingness to trust others, or not being able to fully give love.

Wearing a jade stone or emerald around your neck, or a green t-shirt will help stimulate this Chakra. Using jasmine and lavender during a massage or a yoga class will help keep you relaxed and the energy flowing naturally around this Chakra. Green vegetables, eaten throughout the day, promotes self healing if you feel the Heart Chakra is imbalanced.

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Heart Chakra is balanced.

• Do you have a lot of issues with your heart or lungs?
• Do you have issues with trusting people?
• Do you find difficulty being happy?
• Do you feel that others don’t believe in you?
• Do you find it difficult to forgive?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Heart Chakra needs to be balanced.

When the Throat Chakra is balanced, it will allow you to openly communicate your feeling, thoughts and words without hesitation. When the Throat Chakra is blocked, it is quite the opposite. You may become shy, hold your feelings in, and be afraid to speak your mind. Physically it is related to problems with your Thyroid, Brachial Cervix, and arms.

In order to keep the Throat Chakra balanced, you need to be open and honest with yourself. It is also best to not use “ill” words towards others. If you feel the need to open up a little, wear a blue scarf around your neck. If are worried about talking to someone, eat blueberries to keep the lines of communication open. Turquoise or aquamarine stones, as well as sage and frankincense stimulate and awaken this Chakra.

The absolute best way to balance the Throat Chakra is to sing. It really doesn’t matter if you can carry a tune or not. Sing loudly when you’re alone and use all of your power!

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Throat Chakra is balanced.

• Do you experience multiple sore throats yearly?
• Are you shy in a crowd?
• Do you have difficulty speaking your mind?
• Do you often experience pain in your arms?
• Do you worry what people are thinking of you?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Throat Chakra needs to be balanced.

You can receive guidance and tune into your higher self when your Third Eye is balanced. When your Brow Chakra is blocked, it can create problems for you with your Pituitary Glands. That can give you problems with your eyes, nasty headaches, or even seizures. On an emotional level, an unbalanced Brow Chakra might leave you with nightmares. You may find that people think you are egotistical or too proud. You also may lack “Faith” or lose your faith in “Religion”; no matter what religious faith or spirituality you may be.

Between Reiki Treatments

The best way to balance your Third Eye is by meditation. On a daily basis, sapphires will keep the Brow Chakra moving.

A great meditation technique to stimulate your Third Eye is to use quartz and visualize an indigo colored flame inside the quartz while meditating. Light Jasmin or use Saffron to enhance this experience.

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Brow Chakra is balanced.

• Do you feel alone?
• Do you experience frequent headaches?
• Do you have frequent light sensitivity with your eyes?
• Are your dreams bothersome?
• Do you believe you are better than others?
• Are you overly proud?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Brow Chakra needs to be balanced.

When your Crown Chakra is balanced, you will feel complete harmony. When it is blocked, the Crown Chakra can create multiple emotional problems, such as anger, depression, and loss of love. It also can create a lack of will to live. Physically, problems with your nervous system like Sclerosis, or issues with your brain may be experienced.

Between Reiki Treatments

It is important to maintain a healthy Crown Chakra to the best of your ability. Meditation and Yoga are the best ways to stimulate this Chakra. Meditating while using a rose or lotus fragrance enhances the stimulation. Amethyst earrings or pendants remind you that without the Crown Chakra and your spirituality, you have nothing to strive for.

A great exercise to keep your Crown Chakra working involves reading a book that allows you to use your imagination. Use your thoughts to wander throughout the book as if you were the main character.

Questions to ask yourself to see if your Crown Chakra is balanced.

• Are you depressed, angry, or agitated?
• Do you lack the will to live?
• Have you experienced problems learning things?

If you can answer Yes to more than 2 of these questions, your Brow Chakra needs to be balanced.

• Do you feel a connection to a higher power?
